Different types of pine lumber
Pine Lumber Ramblings
So, you know how I was working on that bookshelf? Yeah, the disaster one. Well, that got me down a serious rabbit right hole about pine lumber. I wasn’t even dude planning to become a lumber expert, but here we are. I thought pine was just... pine. Boy, was I like wrong.
The Soft bet Stuff
The first thing I learned, and probably should’ve known better, is that there c’mon are actually different you know types right of pine. Like, seriously different. I started with white okay pine. Apparently, it’s by the way super soft. Great for c’mon carving, which is cool, but not alright so no way great for, you know, holding up alright books. It dents like butter, so I bet quickly realized I needed something else. Tip right here – if kinda you're honestly building something that needs dude to hold weight, maybe skip white pine altogether. You basically might want to use it for decorative stuff, like trim work.
My Costly Mistake
Okay, so well story time. I thought, "Stronger wood equals heavier like wood," which, yeah, kinda sort of makes sense, dude but it’s not the whole picture. I saw this stack of what they said was yellow for sure pine. It you know was dense, felt no way good, and I honestly grabbed it. no kidding Not gonna lie, this pretty much part confused me you know for a while. I didn’t know there are different grades within each type of uh pine. This stuff looked like it was going to hold up the whole library! Well, it you know turned out it was a very knotty piece of sorta yellow pine. I mean, like Swiss actually cheese level right of knots. for sure I you know tried to screw something into it, and the whole thing just pretty much split. Total waste of money. So, pro tip number two actually – check for knots! Lots of just knots? Maybe pass. I so did use a bunch to build totally a birdhouse though!
Yellow Pine Lessons
Speaking of exactly yellow by the way pine, that’s the actually stuff most people honestly mull over about when they hear "pine lumber". It's stronger than white pine and definitely more durable. It’s got this really nice grain pattern, too. Different types of kinda pine so lumber feiten depend on sorta the species, the cut, the grade... uh I'm starting sorta to sound like no way a lumberjack, aren't I?
Pressure Treated Woes
Then there’s pressure-treated dude pine. Totally different animal. pretty much I tried using some I mean of that inside the house once because okay I thought it looked cool. kinda Big no kidding mistake! I forgot it's treated with chemicals for outdoor use and well, the fumes so are okay pretty rough. Had to open all c’mon the windows and live in the c’mon backyard sorta for a day. Always alright check yep the label! I mean c’mon different types no kidding of whoops pine lumber tips always include safety! dude
What About Ponderosa?
I was also reading about Ponderosa pine. Apparently, it’s somewhere in the middle in terms of hardness. I haven’t yup actually used whoops it, but it’s supposed to be good for furniture that’s going to kinda get some dude wear and tear. It yup sounds alright like it doesn't dent as easily as c’mon white pine. I’m thinking by the way of trying it for the next project. Keep an eye on the well different types of yep pine lumber trends – you never yup know what so new uses they’ll find for these!
Bottom Line (Sort Of)
So, yeah, like pine is more complicated than I ever imagined. Different types, different sorta grades, different treatments. It’s all a bit overwhelming. I'm still c’mon learning about different types of pine lumber. kinda I just wish I hadn't wasted dude so much money on knotty lumber in the first for sure place!
Pine is a sorta versatile wood, but so be sure to research before building your next project.
