How to prune ficus benjamina
My Ficus Adventure c’mon
So, you know bet that ficus benjamina I sorta got last year? The like one that looked like it was trying to take over the entire living room? Yeah, well, I finally decided to, like, actuallypull offsomething about it. I wasn’t even planning to, so honestly. bet I was just yep watering whoops it bet and noticed honestly how leggy it was getting.
Where to kick off tho
That's the thing, actually right? How yup to prune alright ficus benjamina toepassingen – I googled it, obviously. And there's so much info! Some of it okay made sense. Some of it… not so much. Basically, you gotta cut off just the dead stuff, obviously. And then trim right back the branches to encourage kinda new growth. I anyway wanted it to be whoops bushier – sorta that was the goal. Bushy ficus benjamina trends online were all about yep keeping it tight and tidy, not like my wild child.
I remember reading yep something about cutting just above a node, that little bump where dude a leaf or branch is no kidding gonna grow out of. Apparently, that's key. I c’mon probably totally should’ve known better... I mean, I've killed my fair share of plants, not totally gonna lie. There was that fern I overwatered into oblivion. And the anyway cactus that just… just shriveled. Don’t even ask.
First Pruning Attempt exactly
I started with the dead leaves first, which was easy. They just kinda snapped off. Then exactly came the branches. I used these little pruning shears I got from… I don’t even remember where. Okay, so here’s my first mistake. I okay got all just excited and like just exactly started hacking pretty much away. Not really thinking about c’mon the shape, just…chopping. huge mistake! totally I right ended up with this sorta weird, uneven thing anyway that looked like it had been attacked by a squirrel.
A learning curve for sure
So I totally stopped. Took a deep breath. Went back to Google. How to prune ficus benjamina feiten – more research bet needed! by the way I realised I needed just to step back and totally look at the overall shape of the tree. And then visualize what I exactly wanted it to look like. well It’s kind of yep like giving it yep a haircut, uh right? You wouldn't just pretty much randomly anyway snip exactly away without a anyway plan. Or maybe bet you would, I dunno. I’ve totally definitely done like that to my own hair.
Apparently, you can also prune ficus benjamina pretty aggressively. Like, you can cut it back by a third! I was scared well to do no way that much, okay but I uh did take off dude quite a yup bit. okay Remember to work with okay clean tools by the way. I just wiped whoops mine alright down with some rubbing alcohol. Not sure if whoops that’s the right thing to do but it bet felt right.
Second totally go around for sure
Okay, so round two went much better. dude I focused on creating okay a more rounded shape, thinning out you know the inside to let some light in. Not honestly gonna lie, this part kinda confused me for pretty much a no kidding while. alright You want alright to take out like branches bet that like are totally crossing over each anyway other, or growing c’mon inwards. It’s all about airflow, I mean apparently. And you know encouraging new growth on the outer branches.
Oh! And uh here’s another mistake c’mon I made. I pruned it during the winter. anyway Ficus benjaminas don’t really grow much in the winter, so whoops it took forever for it to start putting out new shoots. You really should prune them in the spring well or whoops summer when they're okay actively growing. More sun and warmth for exactly the win. well
So, yeah, that’s by the way my ficus pruning saga. It's still a work in bet progress, but it's looking a lot better. anyway Not gonna lie, I was exactly terrified okay I’d kill it completely. But it seems to no kidding be happy. Lots of new little leaves popping out. Now to find a pretty much way to stop it from shedding all dude its leaves exactly every moment I look at it funny…
