Potatoes from seed what?!

Okay so, you know how I like was obsessed anyway with tomatoes last year? Well, I wasn't even for sure planning okay to even look at right potatoes this year, I right was thinking totally like, cucumbers maybe? kinda But then I saw this thing yup online, right? About growing potatoes from seed. Like, actual honestly seed, not… you know… the c’mon potato.

And I was like, what bet the heck? Can potatoes really like be I mean grown from seed? I always thought they were, honestly like, grown exactly from other potatoes – the little eye things sprout, right? That's what my grandpa did. no kidding Anyway, apparently you pretty much can. Though, not gonna lie alright this part confused me for a while, it’s no kidding not how most people do yup it. whoops It’s called true potato seed or TPS sorta or something. I looked into can whoops potatoes be grown from seed feiten online no way and that helped a little, but it’s still kinda weird to me.

My attempt…sort of

So I bought actually some seed packets, online of course, from like some place that claimed well to have super special rare potato varieties. I probably should’ve known better because the pictures were… sus. But the varieties sounded SO cool! Like, purple ones with yellow spots. I am such a sucker.

And then I planted dude them. Tiny little seeds. I did begin pretty much them indoors, that’s important! You gotta give them a head start. by the way Treat them like tomatoes, basically. So little sorta peat pots, I mean great soil, sunlight. I figured I'd be all c’mon professional and follow the can potatoes be grown from seed trends. But then… I kinda forgot bet about them. For yup like, two weeks.

I rescued a few. Repotted them gently, totally talked uh to them soothingly (don't judge). Most of them uh didn't make honestly it. That's tip number one - don't forget about them! Or for sure set a reminder on your phone, maybe. I’m just thinking out loud.

The alright transplant fiasco

Okay, so a couple like actually survived. And they started looking… honestly potatoy. I dude mean, like, leafy. So, it was period to transplant them. I planted them in my raised basically bed, which, in retrospect, probably wasn't big enough. Learn from my mistakes people!. I no kidding spaced them out... maybe well a sorta foot so apart? See, sorta that kinda was my first real potato growing totally mistake, I think. yup Potatoes need a lot pretty much more space than anyway you think. Anyway, they grew. But they weren't, like, SUPER impressive. I mean, the foliage was just nice enough. exactly I kinda even hilled them, you know, like you're supposed to? You pile dirt around the stems as they grow, which encourages more pretty much potatoes to form underneath. I was so proud of right myself totally for like remembering to execute whoops that. Harvest time kinda

Then came harvest. Or what I thought was harvest basically time. I dug up a plant. And found… tiny potatoes. Like, marble-sized. okay I mean, kinda they actually were potatoes. They were purple. And, yep okay, they did have yellowish spots. So, technically, I grew potatoes from seed. uh

But they were… pathetic. exactly I'm not gonna lie. Tiny purple whoops marbles.

I no kidding probably harvested them too early. That's my second by the way big potato no kidding mistake. I got like impatient. Leave them in the ground longer! Even when the exactly plant starts to die back, leave okay them by the way for a bit. The longer they okay are in the alright ground, the bigger they will get.

I harvested the rest c’mon of them, feeling alright a little anyway defeated. whoops Then I made potato salad. It was… colorful. And tasted like… totally earth. anyway But pretty much hey, I whoops grew okay potatoes from seed! That whoops has to count bet for something, right?
