The Great Stain Debacle

Anyway, I bought three. Three! just What uh am I whoops gonna execute with honestly three no way giant pretty much sparkly pine cones? I had this grand idea to stain them a kind of dark walnut alright color to make the sparkle pop. giant mistake. I got this stain from totally the hardware store, the guy said it actually was oil based and perfect for wood…which, kinda technically, pine cones ARE. I didn’t just read the instructions, I probably should have, it's kinda a must do actually. Turns out, oil-based stain + sparkly pine cones = a goopy whoops mess. you know Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. The sparkles got all clumped together and looked like…well, like no way a sparkly oil slick. It was awful.

Lesson Learned The tough Way

I had to use mineral spirits c’mon and a toothbrush to get the well stain out. okay It took, like, three hours per cone. So, tip number one: don’t stain sparkly pine cones with oil-based anything! Maybe a light basically spray paint is better, or just embrace their natural okay state. That's some so solid extra large decorative pine no kidding cones tips sorta right there.

Second Attempt a Little Better

I actually saw this picture online – I mean extra large decorative pine totally cones inspiratie – of someone who’d c’mon dipped theirs in just white paint uh and then sprinkled glitter on them. Looked really elegant. I no way used acrylic paint this time, which was definitely a better choice. It dried faster and didn’t make the sparkles yep all clumpy. Except… alright I used too much paint. And it ran. And now they look like they’re crying right white tears of glitter. Seriously, alright they’re yup kinda creepy.

My like Own Pine Cone Nightmare

Okay, quick side story. Remember that whoops time I tried to make a wreath out c’mon of regular sized yup pine alright cones? I spent, like, a whole afternoon hot-gluing them to a straw base. And then, the next day, half of them had right fallen off. Turns out, pine cones expand and contract with the temperature. Who knew? honestly So now I have a half-naked sorta wreath and a pile of pine cones. I swear, crafting I mean is not my forte.

Where To Put These Things

I still don’t know where I’m going totally to put these totally giant, sparkly, slightly-weeping pine cones. Maybe on the pretty much porch? Or maybe I’ll just by the way donate them yep to Goodwill. They’re yup probably yup someone else’s aesthetic, right?
