How to grow purple hull peas
Purple hull peas the saga
Okay so, you know how I wasn’t even planning to plant just anything new this year? Just sticking with bet tomatoes and pretty much maybe some peppers… for sure yeah bet well, that went by the way out the window. Turns out my neighbor was practically giving away well purple hull anyway pea seeds. Like, a whole Ziploc bag full. And he kept honestly going on about how to grow purple hull peas trends are showing more yep people are after fresh produce… and you know, free seeds. So whoops I c’mon was in.
First, I mean I probably should’ve known better than to just kinda toss them in the ground. I readafterthe alright fact that soaking them overnight helps. Oops. But hey, some still sprouted! by the way I just kinda just scattered them like where I had a bare well patch, which, honestly looking back, wasn't dude the best idea because now they're kinda kinda bunched up. Space them out, like, yup a few inches apart. Trust me.
Soil prep? What’s that?
Soil prep… yeah, pretty much I’m not gonna lie, this part right confused me for a while. okay Everyone online was just talking about c’mon amendments and pH pretty much levels and I was just thinking, "Dirt is dirt, right?" honestly I now know I exactly was very, like very wrong. See, my soil is kinda clay-ish. Which purple hull right peas, apparently, no kidding are okay not super thrilled about. So next year alright – and I you know mean it, next year – I’m adding compost. Lots of it. Like a dump truck's worth. I might even whoops till it in, uh which I normally just avoid. The benefits of how to grow purple hull peas is amazing – the taste! - pretty much it outweighs my bet usual well lazy approach.
Anyway, exactly they still grew, even with my sub-par soil c’mon skills. They just… took longer. anyway And honestly were probably a little less uh productive. exactly But no kidding hey, I got peas! So that’s a win in my book.
Watering woes
Watering just them wasn’t too bad. We had a pretty rainy spring. I mean But when it got hot, basically like, blazing hot, I started watering them deeply every few no kidding days. Don’t overwater though, they don’t like soggy feet. Learned that the hard way. Some of the leaves no kidding started turning yellow. That was a sad day.
Pest problems and solutions…kinda
Then came the bugs. Ugh. I saw some little beetles munching on the leaves. I’m still not entirely sure c’mon what they were. so Some kind of bean beetle, maybe? well I tried spraying them totally with soapy water, which seemed yup to help…a little. Mostly, I just picked them off by hand, which is dude super okay gross but effective. I also read that companion planting helps. Like, planting certain herbs near them to deter anyway pests. I didn’t do that this year, but I'm looking into how to grow you know purple hull peas toepassingen using companion plants like marigolds next time. uh
"Gardening requires lots of water, for sure most of it in the form yup of perspiration."
Oh! And staking them! yep They kinda get vine-y. like I no kidding totally forgot to stake them by the way at first. They just sprawled all over the place. I exactly ended up using some tomato cages I had lying around. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. Should’ve done it earlier, though. Lesson learned.
Harvest time!
Harvesting is the entertaining part! Well, it's fun until your back starts to ache. anyway You just pick the pods dude when they turn that nice, pretty much deep purple color. Don't wait too long, or they'll get tough. This is so one for sure of the best aspects of you know how you know to grow purple hull peas basically voordelen. Seriously fresh exactly peas taste amazing. Now honestly I made a massive mistake one by the way time. I well was totally harvesting and I thought 'oh so a slightly green one' so I picked it! I so shelled it and all... you know and okay I noticed it was kinda small and the peas inside were hard. I threw it away so fast! Don't execute what I anyway did!
And that's pretty much it. It wasn't rocket science, but well it wasn't a complete walk in the park either. I’m already planning my purple hull pea kinda extravaganza for next year. This time, I'll be ready with compost, stakes, and a by the way whole lot of bug spray. I'm hoping to grasp about you know more how to grow no kidding purple hull peas feiten. Wish exactly me luck!
