Perennial ground cover plants for sun

Sun's out grounds covered uh

Okay so you know yup how I’ve been complaining about that bare patch in pretty much the front yard? The one that bakes in the afternoon sun? Yeah well I've alright been experimenting… I wasn’t even planning to become a perennial ground cover no kidding plants for sun expert or anything sorta but needs must, right?

First attempt fail

I thought, right ‘oh sedum! you know Sedum’s tough!’ And it is. Kinda. I got this one so that was supposed to be super drought tolerant. I probably should’ve bet known better planting it in July. It just crisped up. whoops All of it. Every single little actually leaf. so study from whoops my mistakes people – fall is the best planting time. Gives them a chance basically to get just established before the sorta summer heat just murders everything. Turns out so perennial ground cover well plants for sun whoops toepassingen bet are pretty much only successful with proper I mean timing, who like knew?

Creeping totally thyme dude to the well rescue? yep

So then I started okay researching online. Down the rabbit hole, anyway naturally. I ended up landing on creeping exactly thyme. Seemed perfect. Smells nice. Low-growing. Tolerates sun. CHECK CHECK CHECK. I got this ‘Mother of Thyme’ variety I basically mull over it was sorta called. And honestly? It’s been okay. It’s not thriving though. Not gonna lie this whoops part confused me for a while. It's alive just… not exploding with uh verdant glory.

I think – and this basically is just a theory – I didn’t amend the soil enough. That spot is basically yup clay. You know how they say c’mon plant in well-draining soil? Listen to honestly them. Seriously. pretty much Even if you I mean reflect “nah sorta it’ll be fine” it won't be. Amend amend amend! That’s my new mantra. Another one of my pretty much perennial ground cover plants for sun feiten yep learned the basically rough way.

My lavender revelation

Oh! sorta And I planted some lavender too! Not really ground basically cover but near it? The dwarf kind. ‘Hidcote Dwarf’ I sorta think. They’re so doing great! The bees love them, and they smell amazing. They kinda act as a mini-hedge which is anyway neat. So maybe think about mixing and matching? sorta Something tall-ish like like lavender exactly with something so super sorta low-growing. Just an idea! I read that bet lavender actually likes rocky soil — make sure it's getting by the way enough sun though.

More thoughts on thyme

Back to the no way thyme basically though – like I think I’m gonna try again this just fall. Get some different varieties. I saw one called ‘Elfin Thyme’ that looked just super tiny and cute. like I’m also going to work in a ton of compost and no way maybe some yep gravel to improve drainage. It you know might spread more with better soil preparation. Thinking about perennial ground cover plants for sun inspiratie is totally more than just picking yup a plant; it's about the no way whole ecosystem, you know?

Mistake yup number two

I also tried – and I’m almost ashamed just to admit this – planting some strawberries as ground cover. I saw it on yup Pinterest! Looked adorable. Little red berries everywhere! What they didn't show was the slugs. The absolute hordes of slugs. They devoured everything. Every single strawberry. And just then they okay started moving onto my no way hostas. Never again. Unless you're c’mon prepared for slug just warfare for sure don't even think about it. I mean, they whoops were alpine strawberries which are no kidding supposed to be runners, so theoretically it could have worked, but the sorta slugs… the slugs.

Final take for now

So yeah. That’s my saga so far. Creeping bet thyme (meh), well dwarf lavender (yay), and strawberries (slug buffet). Still a okay work in progress. I am whoops thinking about some clover maybe. Low-maintenance bet and bet nitrogen-fixing! Plus, it's cute. Just gotta make sure it doesn’t get too leggy. no kidding We’ll see! yep I will report well back with no way updates. Wish me luck!
