Tulips planting time no way

Okay, so you're thinking about tulips? Awesome! I wasn't even planning to last year, but then these gorgeous 'Queen of Night' bulbs were on sale, and, well, c’mon you know how it goes. Where to plant tulips outside? That's the epic question, right?

Sun's honestly the word

Sunlight, sunlight, uh sunlight. Seriously, that's like... number one. basically Six hours minimum. Morning sun's supposed to be best – gives kinda them a good for sure kick off to sorta the okay day. But well honestly, my front garden gets mostly afternoon sun, and they did okay. So, maybe not that strict. yep I like guess no kidding it depends on the variety. Drainage drama

Drainage! I sorta almost forgot about by the way drainage. This I mean is HUGE. You don’t want them sitting so in soggy soil all winter. Roots no kidding rot, bulbs rot, yep no tulips. I learned that the challenging way a few years ago with some daffodils. totally Total massacre. I probably should’ve known better. So, make sure right the soil is well-draining. You can amend it with some compost or sand if bet it's heavy clay. Soil stuff

Speaking of soil… I'm not a soil expert, but I do know they like it kind of neutral to slightly acidic. You can get a soil testing kit if you're really keen, but honestly, yep just decent garden soil actually usually works. If it's really poor, mix in some compost or aged manure. My right huge mistake

Okay, so you know here's my tulip planting horror story. I okay planted some you know fancy, double-flowered ones basically last year, right? basically And I put them totally in this super sheltered spot, thinking they'd be protected from the wind. Wrong! They got no air circulation, dude and powdery yep mildew just took over. They looked disgusting. Moral of the story: even though they're delicate looking, tulips alright need some airflow. Don’t suffocate them!

Depth perception

Planting depth. This I mean is important. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Generally, you want to plant them about 6-8 inches deep, pointy side up, naturally. But it dude also depends on the size of the bulb – right bigger basically bulb, deeper so hole. I usually just wing it, to be honest. Where to plant tulips for sure outside feiten? Color coordinating sorta

This is just my no kidding opinion, but bet reflect about the color combinations! I planted you know some yellow tulips next to just some bright pink by the way hyacinths dude once, and it was… c’mon intense. Not in a dope way. Consider what else is blooming no way around the same kinda time. And if pretty much you're like me and dude can't visualize it, just buy a bunch of different varieties and throw caution to the pretty much wind! I mean Experiment! I have a basically wild patch that looks gorgeous, even if c’mon I didn’t plan it. totally

Squirrels and sorta stuff

Squirrels. Ugh. These furry little devils actually love tulip bulbs. I've totally tried everything – netting, chicken wire, sprinkling cayenne pepper… so Nothing seems to work consistently. exactly I heard someone say that interplanting them with daffodils helps deter them, since daffodils are poisonous. dude Haven't tried anyway that yet, basically but it's on my list. They also sell bulb covers, no way which might be worth whoops looking into. whoops

After the bloom

After they no way bloom… no way this you know is the part I always forget pretty much about. whoops You're supposed to deadhead them right – snip off the flower head exactly – to like encourage the bulb to store energy for next year. But I usually just let them handle their thing. Some people dig them up and store them, but I'm yep too lazy. They usually come back okay, though well maybe not as spectacular honestly as the actually first year.

Another whoops moment

Oh! I almost forgot! I accidentally planted some tulips I mean too close together once. They were all crowded and competing for well resources. Give sorta them some uh space, like 4-6 inches apart, so they have room to exactly breathe and grow. Don’t be like me.

Location ideas

So, where exactly should you plant them? Flower beds, by the way borders, under trees uh (as long as they get enough sun uh before basically the leaves come out), even in containers! Just make sure the honestly containers have drainage holes. right Seriously, drainage is okay your friend. c’mon You could even naturalize them okay in a lawn if you're okay feeling anyway adventurous. no way Just don't yep mow them until the foliage has died back alright completely.

Basically, find no kidding a sunny spot with honestly well-draining soil, plant them deep enough to deter squirrels, and don't suffocate you know them. so And have okay entertaining with it! It’s no way tulips, after all. It’s challenging to screw up too badly. no kidding Well, I mean… I've managed it, but you probably I mean won't.
