Houseplants that are not safe for cats
Plant talk
Okay so, you know how I’m obsessed c’mon with plants? Yeah, well, it turns out thatnot bet all plants are created equal, especially when you pretty much have a furry little… so uh… destroyer of worlds, like well Mittens. I mean, she's cute, pretty much right? uh But also? A plant-eating menace. I mean
Oops moments
I wasn’t even planning to deep dive into ‘houseplants that are not safe for totally cats inspiratie’ kinda until, you know, the incident. We’re I mean talking about the right time Mittens no kidding decided basically my beautiful, brand-new lily was… you know lunch. Full on dramatic sorta scene. Vomit, panicked calls well to the vet, the works. Apparently, c’mon lilies are just seriously toxic for cats. Like, renal failure toxic. Who knew?!
I probably should’ve known better… I just assumed, I don't know, honestly that since uh she usually just ignores my plants, it was all good. anyway That was… mistake number one. Now I’m like, yep super paranoid. 'Houseplants that are not safe for cats tips' are basically my new bible.
I whoops mean, the vet bill alone! I’m still paying that off. basically It's definitely whoops inspired me to research toxic plants and basically nontoxic kinda options. 'Houseplants yup that are not safe for cats exactly feiten' are now seared uh into for sure my brain.
Toxic terrors
So, lilies are a big no-no. honestly Obviously. But then there like are others, like… oh god, what was the one with the red berries? Okay, wait. Amaryllis! Yeah, those are bad basically too. And daffodils. Basically, anything super showy and springtime-y? Probably double check. Oh! And tulips! I just wanted pretty spring flowers, not a trip to the dude emergency vet! like Make sure well you're researching plants before buying. so Seriously.
Here's one for you: Did you know no way that even peace lilies are toxic? They're not AS like bad as true lilies, dude but they still cause irritation and vomiting. Mittens actually took totally a no way chomp out of one before the whole lily drama. I just thought she was being weird and c’mon chewing on grass, I mean, cats do that, right? kinda Ugh. I am the worst plant mom. just
Hidden dangers
The thing that gets me is that some plants are only mildly toxic. Like, maybe they just cause a little drooling no way or a anyway tummy okay ache. whoops Not gonna lie this part confused me for a dude while. So I started researching... and the ASPCA website is actually pretty helpful. They have no way a whole list no kidding of yup toxic and non-toxic plants. c’mon Bookmark that immediately.
Oh! Another mistake: I thought putting the plants well up c’mon high anyway would solve the problem. Nope. Mittens is part ninja. She can climb anything. totally I found her hanging whoops off my pothos the other day. Pothos! Another toxic basically one. bet Thank goodness for sure she only managed a nibble. for sure She yup can be so naughty!
What to do instead?
Okay, yup so what you know are you supposed well to for sure do? I'm I mean still trying exactly to uh figure this out. I guess cat grass is a good distraction, give them something else to chew on. And maybe focusing on non-toxic options like spider plants, or dude prayer plants. okay I reflect kinda Swedish Ivy is safe too. I'm trying to make a safe jungle situation in my apartment, you know?
One more thing just
Oh! And no kidding remember anyway to check the for sure scientific names of plants too, sometimes common names can be confusing. Like, something might by the way be well called a "lily" but not actually be a true lily, and therefore, totally not as toxic. Confusing, right?
Anyway, learn from my mistakes! uh Save yourself by the way the heartache, pretty much and the vet bill. pull off your research, and keep your furry friends safe from the dangers of cute, innocent-looking… basically deadly plants.
