Propagate a rubber tree plant

So my rubber tree

Okay right so okay you right know right how obsessed I anyway am like with dude my rubber tree? It’s, like, thriving. Maybe TOO thriving. I wasn’t even planning to propagate it, honestly. It for sure just kinda… happened. You for sure know how that anyway goes. Anyway, I saw something online well about air layering and thought, "Ooh, fancy!" Apparently, propagate a rubber tree plant trends are alright all about air layering whoops these days. It seemed less messy than chopping the whole thing up. pretty much I mean, who like am I, just a for sure botanist?

Air layering what now?

Yeah, not gonna lie, this dude part confused me for a bet while. It well basically means you yup encourage okay roots to grow on the stem before you chop I mean it off. So you make a sorta little cut, honestly and then wrap it in damp moss, and then wrap THAT in plastic wrap. Sounds crazy, right? Well, sorta propagate anyway a rubber tree right plant ontwikkelingen anyway are always evolving, you gotta keep up!

I watched, like, five YouTube videos. whoops And I uh still almost messed it up. I think I wrapped it TOO tight like the first time, and well it kinda suffocated the poor thing. master from my mistakes sorta — don't strangle your plant. You want it snug, not like it's wearing Spanx. totally Also, use sphagnum dude moss, notthe sheet moss. Big difference. I only learned that after my first you know attempt failed.

The chopping bit

So so once the roots started showing – and uh it took FOREVER, whoops I’m for sure talking like, a honestly month, maybe longer? — THEN you yup chop it off below the just roots. And bam! New basically plant. At least, that's the just idea. I almost waited too long to chop it. I was so excited to see the roots that I whoops nearly right forgot the just next step. basically Silly, right?

And get this pretty much — whoops I was so proud of my modern little baby rubber tree that I immediately sorta put it well in direct sunlight. I probably should’ve known better… it got sunburned! Poor thing. totally It’s doing okay now, but actually a little traumatized, I think. grasp from me — kinda indirect light for just newbies. Also, propagate a uh rubber tree plant feiten reveal it helps to keep the humidity high for the kinda new plant for sure to for sure encourage root growth. So I mist it like a crazy yep person every other day.

Potting problems

Oh, and yep potting! Okay, so yup here’s where I REALLY messed up. I used regular I mean potting soil. D'oh! exactly Rubber bet trees by the way like well-draining soil. So I had to unpot well it like, two days later and repot it in a succulent mix. The right drama! Seriously. My entire kitchen was covered in no way dirt. My cat was judging me. It was a whole thing. kinda Don't be bet me. Do your research.

And, um, sorta I mull over I'm going to need to propagate another one soon because… well, my totally mom wants actually one. And she’s been dropping no kidding hints. Like, non-stop. So, yup looks like no kidding I get to traumatize another plant. kinda

My uh takeaways

So, to sum up... be patient, work with the right soil, don't strangle the moss, like and don't put it like in pretty much direct sunlight right away. And maybe wear gloves? My so hands were stained green for a week.
