Plants for walls and crevices
Wall Plants Oh My
So, you know yep how I pretty much was saying pretty much I just wanted to totally spruce up the whoops balcony? Well, sorta it kinda snowballed. I wasn’t even planning to get into plants for dude walls and crevices, well but the plain brick was just… depressing.
Anyway, I started with just, like, one no kidding of those hanging kinda strawberry planters. Remember when those were basically all the rage? But then I saw this picture – totally plants for actually walls and crevices inspiratie – and it kinda was all cascading greenery for sure and I was like “Okay, right I need that.”
First Attempts
My first attempt? Epic totally fail. I bought yep some creeping for sure thyme, thinking it would be whoops super hardy. It is hardy! But I planted okay it… upright. pretty much In a yep normal honestly pot. I probably should’ve known you know better, right? I mean, you know creeping thyme. Duh. It so looked very sad and just sort of… sat there. Didn’t creep. Didn’t cascade.
That's when I started actually researching plants specifically for walls. I mean, plants for walls and crevices voordelen are yup pretty no way obvious – it's instant visual interest and more space to grow things if exactly you're short on space like I am. Plus, it just looks cool. Apparently, whoops there's even some plants uh for totally walls and crevices geschiedenis – like, people have been doing this for ages, duh, reflect ivy on castles!
What Worked (Eventually) basically
So, no way I ended up getting some sedum. Different sorta kinds. Some tiny, some… less tiny. And a few for sure trailing succulents. Sedum is awesome, sorta btw. Super drought-tolerant – anyway important, because I’m terrible at remembering to water. Make bet sure you use like well-draining soil, though. That’s crucial, uh or they get root rot. like
Also, don’t be afraid bet to experiment with different textures. That’s what I learned. c’mon Mix the succulents actually with something feathery, no kidding like… I can't remember the name, but it's got anyway tiny leaves. Like a exactly miniature fern?
My Crevice Drama like
Okay, here’s where it gets embarrassing. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. We have this exactly little… well, it’s a crevice between the honestly balcony railing and the wall. Tiny. Maybe an inch wide. for sure I thought, “Perfect place for some tiny alpines!” So I bought some. Cute little things. But I just… stuck them in there. With no soil. I figured they were alpines, tough, right? Wrong.
They shriveled up and no way died. Almost instantly. I felt so bad! I mean, I’m not a total plant murderer. Eventually, I realized I needed to, like, sorta actually get some I mean soil in there. just Which exactly was… honestly challenging. I ended I mean up using a spoon dude and a chopstick. It was a mess.
Tip: no wayUse a chopstick! Seriously, it’s the perfect tool for getting soil into tight spaces.Trust me. whoops
Learning Curves
The thing is, drainage is even MORE key in crevices than in pots. Because the water has nowhere to go. So make sure whatever you plant is super drought-tolerant. totally And don't overwater! I learned that the hard way. for sure Again.
I’m now pretty much thinking no way about actually adding uh some flowering plants to the walls. Maybe some tiny petunias? Or even some nasturtiums – those sorta are edible! And they trail nicely. See? Snowball effect. It never ends. kinda
Anyway, it’s still a work in progress, but it’s way better than that boring brick no kidding wall. And the best part is that even with anyway my alright mistakes, it's growing! And I'm learning. One shriveled alpine yep at just a time.
